Introduction to TÖMER test
In addition to business owners and employers, having the TÖMER certificate is also important to educational centers,
higher education institutes and universities. And it can be considered one of the prerequisites of entering the
universities of Turkey.
The goal of conducting the TÖMER test is to assess the level of Turkish knowledge of work and education applicants
in Turkey. In other words, this certificate is the equivalent of IELTS and TOEFL certificates of English.

Who needs the TÖMER certificate?

  1. Foreign students (non-Turkish speaking) in universities of Turkey
  2. Work applicants in Turkey or Turkish companies in all over the world

At what levels is the TÖMER certificate offered?

  2. Sertifika or certificate

1. Diploma
The validity of this certificate is lifelong and by participating in TÖMER test once, your proficiency in Turkish will be
confirmed forever. Universities all over Turkey approve of the TÖMER diploma for continuing education. Applicants
for continuing education or work in Turkey must at least get a C1 in this test.

2. Sertifika

The validity of this certificate lasts from six months to two years and it is conducted at basic and intermediate levels.
The basic certificate’s validity lasts for six months and the test’s participant must get a B2 in order to obtain the
intermediate certificate which lasts for two years in which the participant must at least get a B1. After the validity
period of the certificate expires, the participant must proceed to extend its validity.
Just as the TOEFL test is conducted by the ETS organization in the United States, the TÖMER test is also conducted by
the UTS organization (Turkce Uzaktan Sinavi) in Turkey.

A1 (basic)

The A1 level: the general communication ability, answering simple questions.

A2 (basic)

The A2 level: a basic knowledge of the language and the ability to communicate about predictable subjects.

B1 (intermediate)

The B1 level: an intermediate knowledge of the language and encountering some uncommon situations, for example
opening a bank account.

B2 (intermediate)

The B2 level: a good knowledge of the language and the ability to describe a wide range of subjects, for example a
detailed description of a place.

C1 (advanced)

The C1 level: a very good knowledge of the language and the ability to encounter unpredictable subjects.

C2 (advanced)

The C2 level: a native-like knowledge of the language.

There are many resources available to prepare for this test, the most important of which are:

HiTiT Book Collection: These books are written specifically for TÖMER applicants. In fact, this source can be considered one of the most important books to pass this test. Of course, what you need to consider about the TÖMER exam is the purpose you are looking for in this test, for example, do you need this test to sign up for school, a work visa, etc.

MER Books Collection: At the end of these books, you will have access to a sample of questions that are asked in the TOMER test.
You can also use Turkish dictionaries. The most important of these dictionaries is Büyük Türkçe Sözlük.
